How does WeatherIt measure rainfall?

WeatherIt uses trusted, official weather-station data. In Australia this comes from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM); in New Zealand, from MetService. If data from the primary source is not available, WeatherIt will use rainfall data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) for the same meteorological station identified in your policy schedule.

Your policy schedule shows the name of the weather station used for your coverage and the distance between your insured location and that station. Only rainfall data from these approved sources is used to determine whether a payout is triggered.

Can I still go to my event or stay and receive a payout?

Yes. Your WeatherIt Rain Insurance payout is based only on measured rainfall reaching the rain threshold trigger during your coverage hours — not on whether you attend, leave early, or decide to stay home.

You have complete flexibility: go and enjoy your stay or event, leave early because of rain, or decide not to travel at all. Under any of these choices, if rainfall at your insured location reaches the trigger on any covered day, you will still receive your fixed cash payout.

How do payouts work and how long do they take?

You do not need to submit a claim. If rainfall meets your trigger, WeatherIt automatically starts the payout process.

You will receive an email or SMS to securely confirm your nominated payment details. Once confirmed, payments are processed within 1–3 business days and we will keep you updated throughout.

How much will I be paid if it rains on multiple days?

Your payout is a fixed cash benefit per covered day, set when you buy your policy. Each covered day is checked independently — if rainfall reaches the trigger on multiple covered days, you receive the payout for each of those days.

For example: if your policy pays $330 per covered day and the trigger is met on two days, your total payout is $660. No payout applies on the checkout day.

What information is shown on the rainfall chart?

Your rainfall chart displays:

  • Daily rainfall from your named BOM weather station
  • Your policy rainfall trigger shown as a reference line
  • Coverage hours for each day of your policy
  • Historical rainfall data leading up to your trip
  • Real-time updates during your insured dates
  • Clear indicators when rainfall triggers exceed your threshold levels

Is there a maximum payout?

Yes — the maximum you can receive is the sum of the fixed daily payouts shown on your policy schedule for your covered days. Each day is assessed separately. There is no excess to pay. We never pay more than the total fixed amounts shown on your policy.

What does WeatherIt cover and what rainfall counts?

WeatherIt Rain Insurance pays a fixed cash benefit if rainfall reaches the rainfall trigger shown on your policy during your coverage hours on a covered day.

It only covers rainfall — not wind, hail, snow, lightning, temperature, humidity, or other weather.

Rainfall must meet or exceed your rainfall trigger during your coverage hours (shown on your policy schedule). No forms, no receipts, and no need to cancel your plans — payouts happen automatically when rainfall meets the trigger.

What happens if the weather station data is temporarily offline?

Your payout assessment keeps working even if a weather station goes offline. Your primary data source is the official weather station named on your policy schedule — the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) in Australia, or MetService in New Zealand. If data from the primary source is temporarily unavailable, we use rainfall data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) for the same location, as set out in your policy. This redundancy means a station outage will not prevent your rainfall from being assessed or your payout from being made.
